The Great Train Race was my first full-fledged professional production, created for A Play, A Pie and A Pint at the Oran Mor in Glasgow. The play, also a debut for former Times theatre critic Robert Dawson-Scott, toured to the Lemon Tree Theatre in Aberdeen and featured Joyce Falconer, Grant O'Rourke and Iain Robertson.

Exuberantly dramatising the story of the vigorous competition between Scotland's two great railway companies after the construction of the Forth Bridge in 1895, the play was warmly received by critics in both The Herald and The Scotsman.
